CCA Programme for DEA officers in Matale

A follow up programme to the programme held on 31st May was held for Field staff of the Department of Export Agriculture at their Headquarters Training Institute in Matale on 26th July 2018. The progrramme was organized by SLWP at the request of Dr A Heenkenda the Director General DEA.

Presentations were made by Dr BVR Punyawardene the Principal Scientist NRMC of the Dept. of Agriculture who is the acknowledged and most recognized Agro Climatologist in Sri Lanka. Presentations were also made by Dr Ajantha De Silva Director NRMC on Tech Options and Best Practices with reference to the field level operations and by Dr HMDA Subasinghe Director Research DEA on CCA and Export Agriculture crops, Mr Ranjith Ratnayake Country Coordinator and Mr UG Abeygunawardena Consultant represented SLWP.


CCA Programme in Mannar

The First Tamil Medium Programme for Farmer Representatives and Officers of the Irrigation Department, Agrarian Services and Agriculture Department serving in Giants Tank System was held in Mannar on 25th June. This programme was partially supported by CapNet Lanka. Resource Persons from ID Colombo, and University of Peradeniya helped in the technical content. Regional Director Irrigation Mannar fully supported the programme which was organized by the Resident Project Manager of the Irrigation Management Division of the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources. 34 for leaders and 31 officers participated in this programme that was held in Farmers Meeting Hall in Mankulam.


CCA Programme for Senior Officials of the Department of Export Agriculture

A CCA awareness/ Tech Options programme was  held for the  Senior Research and Development staff of the Department of Export Agriculture at their Headquarters in Matale on 31st May 2018. The progrramme was organized  by SLWP at the request of Dr A Heenkenda the Director General DEA, The DG was on travel and he was represented by Dr Gamini WijesingeActg DG. Senior staff including Director Development was present throughout the programme. A total of 46 DEA senior Research /Development officers participated.

A follow up programme for Extension Staff of the DEA is planned for August/ September based on the request of DEA


WACREP CCA Programme for Farmer Officer (FO) Leaders – Kirindi Oya Project (KOISP)

The Programme was held for FO leaders in Kirindi Oya Project on 12th March at the Tissmaharama District Secretariat Auditorium. This was a CCA collaborative activity of SLWP and the Irrigation Management Division of the Ministry Of Irrigation nod water Resources Managements. Total of 66 FO leaders (65 Males 1 Female) from 17 farmer organizations participated. These FO leaves represented 7 Irrigation reservoirs under the Kirindi Oya Project which is the largest irrigation project in the Southern Province. Resource Persons included a Director of Agriculture Mrs C Gunawardene who dealt on the agronomic options and practices to cope with CC, Mr Ananda Jayasinghe Irrigation Agronomist who dealt on water and CCA and Chief Engineer H. Prematunge who dealt on seasonal planning and water management. A similar programme on CCA for Officers of KOISP had been held two years back in Hambantota.


WACREP CCA Programme for FO Leaders and Field Staff – Kaltota Irrigation Scheme

A  CCA Capacity Building and Tech Options Demonstration Programme was held for field staff and farmer representatives of Kaltota Major Irrigation Scheme as collaborative activity of the Irrigation Department and SLWP on 8th March 2018 at Kaltota Irrigation Bungalow. The Programme included FO representatives of Katupath oya and Panamure, two adjacent schemes. Kaltota is remote scheme almost 80 Km from the District irrigation Office and seldom supported with this type of programme. Notwithstanding the travel difficulties and that the Seasonal Cultivation meeting was to be held later that day the participation was excellent. It was the first time these FO had been exposed to Technology Options and water saving techniques and had programme on CCA. There were 57 participants (7 Females and 50 males) including field staff of the Irrigation Department, Department of Agriculture and Department of Agrarian Development. The Regional office in Colombo was represented by Chief Engineer Mrs ANP de Soysa and the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources by Eng WG Gnanadasa Director Technical of the Ministry who also made a presentation. Mr Ananda Jayasinghe Specialist Irrigation Agronomist and Mr Hiran Peiris Deputy Director Farm Broadcasting Service of the Department of Agriculture were the other Technical Resource Persons.
