World Water Day 2018 Programme at SLFI

A World Water Day Programme was held on Sunday 25th March at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute for 38 schools in the Western Province. The Programme was organized by the  Planning Division of the Western Provincial Council in collaboration with the University of Colombo and Lanka Jalani. Over 200 students in grades 6 to 13 attended this  full day programme along with about 150 teachers and parents. Prof. Deepthi Wickramasinghe  SLWP Activity Leader on Ecosystems and Wetlands and her staff from the university   served as resource persons. Mr Ranjith Ratnayake Country Coordinator and Mr Thakshila Premaratne also attended the programme. The main objective of the full day training   workshop was to establish  networking among schools in WP especially activating and  linking the Environmental Cells in these schools. It was decided that Newsletter in Sinhala /English would be produced and shared among the WP schools on quarterly basis to encourage interest and interaction on water and environmental issues.  The Secretary  Ministry Local Government and Environment  of the WPC was the Chief Guest on this occasion.
